Honors Spanish III (42419331): continues with the development of the three modes of communication with the introduction of specialized vocabulary and advanced language structures. Students will:
Develop intermediate-mid level proficiency skills in speaking, writing, listening, and reading.
Use grammar as a tool for effective communication
Develop language-learning strategies, and improve critical thinking and problem solving strategies
Expand cultural knowledge and learn to interpret the varied products of Spanish-speaking civilizations, such as music, films, newspapers, literary texts, architecture, and inventions, in terms of underlying cultural values and attitudes.
Performance Standards: The focus of this course is standards-based and performance-based instruction using the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century, ACTFL Performance Guidelines for K-12 Learners, and the JCPS Core Curriculum Content Standards (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons and Communities). Core Academic Content: Vocabulary related to units of study, all verb tenses of the indicative and present subjunctive moods. Units of Study: 1. "¿Cómo te llevas con los demás?" 2. “¿Qué nos traerá el futuro?" 3. “Conociendo el mundo a través de los medios de comunicación” 4. “¿Cómo te expresas?”, 5. “Días inolvidables”, 6."¿Qué haces para estar en forma?”, 7. “Trabajo y comunidad”, 8. “Ayudando mi ciudad."
Resources/Materials Needed:
Textbook: ¡Auténtico! 3, and Aventura Woorkbook (are provided).
Students purchase: 3 subject notebook, 1 twin-pocket folder and $5.00 fee.
Forms of assessment/grading scale: A variety of formats and scoring guides will be utilized to evaluate student performance in specific areas related to functional proficiency. Individual scoring guides will be discussed before each assignment or assessment is to be completed. Below is a listing of the areas that will comprise student grades with a listing of the percentage each area counts toward the overall grade. 1)Student Engagement With Standards (20%).

Because of the nature of this class, your active participation in all activities is expected and required. In order to receive the maximum grade, you must attend class, participate actively in class discussions and activities every day, and speak Spanish as much as possible. At the start of each class learners will respond a prompt related to current material (warm up activity). 2)Student Progression Toward Standards (30%).

Homework will help to practice and review vocabulary, grammar, and language skills in general. Student will be allowed to redo their homework, if they turn it in on time. Self-assessments serve to analyze and set goals to improve their language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish. Quizzes serve as periodic mini assessments of vocabulary and grammar acquisition and are most often announced beforehand, but you can expect some pop quizzes as well. Pop quizzes generally cover information learned that week in class. 3)Student Mastery of Standards (50%).

Performance assessments, presentations, and projects for this course are tools to measure student performance in the language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The results will help the teacher and students to set new learning targets in order to allow student growth. WIKI will be use to do group projects. Grading Scale 90-100 A Above Standards 80-89 B Meets Standards 70-79 C Approaching Standards 60-69 D Bellow Standards Below 60 U Substantially Below Standards Other possibilities: Field trips, as appropriate, to plays, films, restaurants; Trip.
